More than a dozen local high-tech employees and other volunteers will gather at UT Dallas this week before fanning out next month to teach, encourage, prod, cheerlead and otherwise interact with kids, all in the interest of promoting an interest in science. Part of the University's Contact Science program, this new effort provides kids with stimulating opportunities for hands-on involvement with science. read more
In an audio interview, Geosciences Professor Emeritus James Carter describes taking a job in 1964 at the institution that would one day be UT Dallas. He is retired now from teaching and research but has plenty to keep him busy. Dr. Carter is a world-renowned expert in "simulated lunar regolith," or fake moon dirt, which he has developed a process to simulate for supply to NASA. read more
Doctoral student Konrad Mueller has received support to advance his research in molecular and cell biology through the Jess Hay Endowment for Chancellor's Graduate Student Research Fellowships. The $10,000 fellowship from the UT System will support Mueller's investigations into the mechanisms by which bacteria simultaneously modulate their functions to interact with other organisms. The research could provide insight into concerted behavior similarly observed in many pathogenic bacteria when initiating infection and disease. read more
George McMechan serves as Director of both the Center for Lithospheric Studies and the Geophysical Consortium (an industrial affiliates program) at UT Dallas. He has 36 years of experience in geophysical research in academia, industry and government. (read more)
