Program Helps Students Bond While They Are Abroad

iFriend UT Dallas(Feb 3, 2012) The chance to learn about new cultures, different languages or exotic foods might make the iFriend program seem like a good idea to just about anyone, but a few UT Dallas students walk away with the best perk of all: a lifelong pal. Begun in fall 2010 as a way to help new international teaching assistants acclimate to life on campus, the program has morphed into a partnership between the International Student Services Office and the Office of Student Volunteerism that provides an immersive cultural experience to both domestic and international students. read more

Citigroup Whistleblower to Discuss ‘60 Minutes’ Story

Richard Bowen(Feb 3, 2012) Richard Bowen, a former vice president at Citigroup, tried to warn the bank’s senior management and board of directors about the increasing levels of defective mortgages he was seeing.  The news program, 60 Minutes, recently featured his experiences in a story focusing on why large Wall Street banks have not been prosecuted under the Sarbanes-Oxley law. Bowen, who also testified before a congressional commission and is now a professor of accounting at UT Dallas, on Feb. 6 will offer a glimpse behind the scenes of the troubled mortgage industry at the heart of the nation’s financial meltdown. read more

Weekend Events to Strike a Chord With Classical Music Fans

Javier Calderon(Feb 3, 2012) The School of Arts and Humanities has scheduled back-to-back classical music concerts this weekend with performances by a guitar virtuoso and a piano duo on separate nights. Guitarist Javier Calderón plays Friday, Feb. 3.  The music continues Saturday, Feb. 4, with a piano concert for four hands by the Euphonia Duo, made up of Fenia Chang and Evelyn Chen. read more
